The United States Will Fall like the Roman Empire What makes a country or empire so powerful? Is it a leader, the military, or even the people? These all do. They make a certain connection due to the success of an empire. You can they’re the â€Å"Three Musketeers† of one. The old Roman Empire and the United States have that connection. Both were in great power, had prosperity, and were strong in their own unique ways. But what if the United States falls dramatically—just like the Roman Empire did in 476 AD? What would we do? This fall would not be based on mythical angry gods, but our decisions in life today. The political, military, economic, and social judgments we make present day—believe it or not—are based on our future consequences.†¦show more content†¦Second, military purposes played another part in decay. Foreign invasions were a nightmare to the Roman Empire. People of barbaric descent constantly fought for their area, destroying precious buildings and decreasing prosperity. Gov ernment expenses were immense and took great effort to raise. The spending affected the craftsmanship of public housing and aqueducts. Citizens grew tried of defending their home simply because they worked hard and the money they earned was taken away by the government. As a result, the Roman government hired soldiers to fight for them and in return they would be paid. These were called mercenaries, yet they were unemployed people or foreigners, which was unfortunate because that meant they fought against their own people and he wasn’t something to be proud of. Not only was it undependable, but this group of army didn’t come cheap. Emperors were forced to raise taxes and eventually Romans would revolt. Americans are unhappy about the war in Iraq today and they are protesting to send out their message of what President Bush is doing is wrong. Their taxes are also increasing, which makes us angry. Third, the Roman Empire continued to decline because of economic reasons. Corrupt officials replaced loyal ones and raised taxes drastically. Self-interest and luxury was all that mattered to these dim-witted leaders and the middle-class (the merchants, laborers, artisans, and teachers) suffered for this. When looking at Christianity and Hinduism there are many ways to look at each religion from a theological perspective. This is why the best way to look at the broad view of these religions would be to analyze each by comparing and contrasting what each religion is about. The first point to look at would be at how Hinduism and Christianity are very similar in how they view the world. This can be seen in how they both strive to achieve a state of higher being whether it be with the eternal state of Moksha or eternal life in heaven with God. They both also look to be more introspective of themselves in order to maintain a good relationship with their higher being. Achieving the goals you set for yourself? The term success is difficult to define because it means something different to everyone. To Bianca Stringer, the newly elected president of Phi Delta Epsilon, success means taking initiative. Stringer was one of the founding members of this particular chapter of the nationally recognized medical fraternity. She first served as treasurer but made it her goal to be elected president of the fraternity her senior year. Stringer recently had the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas for a national Phi Delta Epsilon leadership conference. This was Stringer’s first experience on a plane and understandably, she was apprehensive about flying alone. Her time at the airport went off without a hitch though until she reached the customs department. As a first time flier, Stringer forgot that she couldnt pack her 6-ounce face wash in her carry-on bag. â€Å"The customs officer threw my face wash away! Other than that though, the trip was perfect,† laughed Stringer. Stringer explained that traveling to the conference by herself did seem intimidating at first, but her experiences in Las Vegas made the trip well worth her anxieties. â€Å"I was so fortunate to be able to attend the Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Convention in the fabulous city of Las Vegas. To Lombardi, success means completing every task he attempts to the best of his abilities. This has been his definition of success throughout his entire life. Lombardi didnt always aspire to be the Vice President of a university; he actually studied music in college. Lombardi was very focused as an undergrad in his chosen major, but found himself drawn to leadership roles immediately. He was extremely involved on campus as an RA and as a member of various service organizations as well. As he built a relationship with the Dean of Students and other members of the school administration at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, they suggested that he pursue a career as a faculty member after graduation. The rest is history. At Ohio University, Lombardi enjoys being able to connect with the students on a personal level. He also explained that he believes Ohio University is an ideal campus for molding successful college graduates. â€Å"This place is a great laboratory for creating well-rounded individuals. Students can become leaders, engage with people, find themselves and be who they want to be. You dont have to fit a certain mold here because you can be comfortable in your own skin. † There are countless opportunities at Ohio University that allow students to be successful, no matter where their interests lie. The Vice President encourages students to become involved in different organizations, employment options and various campus-wide workshops, because these outlets are all great resources for students to utilize. Through these stories it is apparent that success is a personal choice. Each of these individuals made conscious decisions about the direction in which they want their lives to go. Everyone’s path is different but it is inevitable that mistakes will be made and difficulties will be experienced along the way. It is how a person approaches these obstacles though that shapes an individual’s level of success.
